Short answers to common problems.

The panel says Flick needs accessibility permissions

Flick can't see your windows until you allow it. Click Open Accessibility Settings in the panel, or Accessibility permission needed in Flick's menu bar menu. Then, in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Accessibility, turn on Flick. If Flick isn't in the list, add it with the + button.

There's no need to restart: Flick notices within a few seconds and lists your windows as soon as it's allowed. Step-by-step guide

I press ⌥Tab and no panel appears

Keep holding ⌥ after you tap Tab. A quick tap and release switches straight back to your previous window without showing the panel. That's on purpose.

If nothing happens at all, make sure Flick is running, that Enable switcher shortcut is on in Settings › Shortcuts, and that no other app already uses ⌥Tab. If one does, quit it, then quit and reopen Flick. Holding ⌥ by itself doesn't open Flick; it opens when you tap Tab.

I chose ⌘Tab, but the macOS switcher still appears

Flick leaves ⌘Tab to macOS until it has the Accessibility permission, so you're never left without a working switcher. Turn on Flick in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Accessibility, and check that Enable switcher shortcut is on and Command ⌘ + Tab is selected in Settings › Shortcuts. If you quit Flick, ⌘Tab goes back to the macOS switcher.

A window or app is missing from the list

Check that the app isn't in Settings › Exceptions › Ignored Apps, and that Show only the active Space is off in Settings › General.

Some windows are left out on purpose: apps that live only in the menu bar, floating palettes and panels, Picture in Picture, very small windows, and the tabs behind the front tab of a tabbed window. If Flick can't read an app's windows, that app appears as a single row (as long as Show apps without windows is on in Settings › General), and choosing it opens the app.

I started typing and a window closed or minimized, or an app hid or quit

While the panel is open and you hold ⌥, four letters are shortcuts: ⌥W closes the selected window, ⌥M minimizes it, ⌥H hides its app and ⌥Q quits the app. If you switch with ⌘Tab, the same letters work with ⌘.

To search for anything with a W, M, H or Q in it, press Return, let go of ⌥, then type. Or open search directly with ⇧⌘Space.

I hid the menu bar icon. How do I open Settings?

While Flick is running, open it again from Finder or Spotlight and Settings appears. You can also click the gear in the bottom-right corner of the panel. To bring the icon back, turn on Show menu bar icon in Settings › General.

Flick sends nothing on its own.

The app makes no network requests and has no analytics, so it never sends diagnostics or usage data. A screenshot of the panel shows your window titles, so crop out anything private before you attach it. Read the privacy policy
